So since I can’t watch the game like a normal person on TV (stupid preseason blackouts), and since the radio doesn’t seem to want to work for AM stations, I have WGR streaming Rick and Harry, and RDS streaming the video. But, of course, they don’t sync up. Oh well. And I really could have sworn the radio feed was well ahead of the video, up until the commercial break before Pominville scored, at which point I realized I was wrong. So it’s a little confusing.
But I digress. I refuse to complain because it’s hockey—it’s the Sabres, and I can hear it, and I can see it. That’s enough for me.
And I’m making cut out cookies. This is seriously the best sugar cookie recipe ever. Steal it from me. PLEASE. You won’t regret it!
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups butter, softened
- 2 cups white granulated sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 5 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
Directions:
- Cream together butter and sugar. Beat in eggs—one at a time, and vanilla. Slowly add and beat in flour, baking powder, and salt. Leave in bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- When dough has firmed, roll out on a floured surface and cut into desired shapes. Preheat oven to 400-degrees Fahrenheit. Place on cookie sheet, about 1-inch apart, and bake for 6-8 minutes.
You can eat them just like this, put some sprinkles on them, frost them, or both. I like to use royal icing (2 pounds confectioners’ sugar, 1/4 cup water, and 5 tablespoons meringue powder; well-beaten) and sprinkles.
We’ll see how they turn out. I was having a frustrating afternoon so I went to Michael’s and spent about $100 on baking supplies. Oh, my life.
Can we have real hockey yet?
